This 2D visual development project was created for a special story following a family’s journey as they flee North Korea in search of freedom and a better life.

The client commissioned a full 2D look development exploration, including the visual style, colour palette, character and environment design, and overall visual language of the piece. The goal was to create a distinctive aesthetic that could capture both the stark reality of their world and the emotional warmth, resilience, and hope at the heart of their journey.

The development explored how colour, design, composition, and atmosphere could evolve with the story — moving from the controlled, oppressive world they leave behind toward a visual language that reflects the possibility of freedom and a new beginning.
